DTFlex printing on clothing: what to check before you buy
18 Jun 2026 · Updated 17 Oct 2026
A print can look different in a product photo and in everyday wear. Before choosing a printed garment, it helps to know what technique the product uses, how the surface feels and what care the maker recommends. DTF is one transfer-printing process; ‘DTFlex’ needs a precise product-level description before it can be treated as a guarantee.
How transfer printing works
With DTF, a design is printed on a film and transferred to fabric with heat and adhesive. The result sits on the fabric surface. Colour, detail and feel depend on the artwork, materials and process settings, as well as the base garment. A photograph alone cannot show every aspect of texture or flexibility.
Screen printing, direct-to-garment printing and transfers each have different strengths. None is automatically the most durable or ‘premium’ in every use case. Claims about wash resistance need evidence for the exact combination of garment, ink, transfer and care routine.
Printful calls its version of DTF printing DTFlex and describes its benefits. That general guide does not identify the KALEW items using the method or provide wash-test results for them.
Questions worth asking
First, check whether your chosen KALEW item actually uses DTF or DTFlex. For DTFlex items, Printful recommends washing cold and inside-out on a gentle cycle, drying on low or in the air, and never ironing the print. Follow the care label of the actual garment as well.
Also consider the print area and fit. A large image can feel different from a small chest motif, and a garment that fits well will usually be easier to enjoy. Use the size chart on the product page instead of choosing by a familiar letter size alone.
Choose the garment first
The best print method is only one part of a good purchase. Look at the design, fabric information, available sizes, expected delivery and returns terms together. This gives you a clearer picture than any single technology label.
